In celebration of National Volunteers Week, we’re shining a spotlight on Shreya, our new Interim Resources Manager.

Shreya’s relationship with Delight began when she became a volunteer during her teens as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award, where she spent many Saturday mornings in our cold Rehill lock-up sorting and packing books for our Delight in Reading programme.
After graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in English Literature, Shreya reached out to Delight to see if we had any volunteer opportunities – which of course we did! When we asked her about what drew her to return to Delight Shreya said, “I absolutely love the charity and the people, and its mission really resonates with me.”
Her generosity, intelligence, and keen eye for detail didn’t go unnoticed. What began as volunteer work soon became a professional opportunity when we appointed her as our Interim Resources Manager, overseeing the preparation, packing and distribution of our high-quality arts-based learning resources for schools. “I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work at Delight – the people and the culture make for an incredibly supportive environment, and I’ve loved being able to grow in a professional capacity.”
Shreya’s progression from volunteer to staff member illustrates how investing time in volunteer work can lead to unexpected opportunities. We’ll reluctantly say goodbye to Shreya at the end of the summer as she heads to Cambridge to begin her career, but we will enjoy every moment of having her with us until then.

Celebrating All Our Volunteers
This National Volunteers Week, as we celebrate Shreya, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers. Whether you’ve been with us for years or have just joined us, your contribution is vital to Delight’s continued success.
